Entry-ban codes
What entry bans and restriction codes mean, how long they last and how to apply for their removal.
A restriction code is an annotation in the migration records that limits a foreigner's entry into Türkiye or certain transactions. Codes consist of different letters and numbers depending on the reason; each has a different meaning and effect.
Entry ban (YUKK Art. 9)
An entry ban may be imposed on foreigners who have been deported. It cannot exceed five years, but where there is a serious threat to public order or security it may be extended by up to five more years. Foreigners who have overstayed a visa or residence permit may also face an entry ban depending on the length and nature of the violation.
Finding out and removing a code
- You can apply in writing to the Presidency of Migration Management to learn whether a code exists and on what basis.
- If the code is considered unlawful, its removal can be requested; if refused, an action can be filed before the administrative court (Law No. 2577, Art. 7).
- In some cases entry with a visa may be permitted before the ban expires (YUKK Art. 9).
The type of code determines the route to follow. Before any application, find out the basis and date of the code.
